Birkenstock knows a thing or two about anatomical footwear. Hell, the company basically invented the category hundreds of years before it became trendy.

Konrad Birkenstock, a descendent of brand founder Johann Adam Birkenstock, designed the world’s first orthopedic insole back in 1896. Present in most Birkenstock models, it remains largely unchanged to this day.

Now, 250 years after the company was founded, it’s trying something new. Birkenstock’s brand-new Recovery Pack introduces an innovative footbed designed specifically to speed up recovery from a hard run or workout session.

From the road to recovery

A new water-friendly polyurethane footbed forms the foundation of the set. It features raised nubs that stimulate trigger points and promote blood circulation, Birkenstock says.

The company recommends using it for up to 15 minutes immediately following a run, though admits athletes’ needs may vary depending on the person and intensity of their workouts.

The interchangeable footbed is compatible with the existing Birki Air 2.0 clog, which arrives here in a special-edition white colorway.

As for the shoe itself, side vents actively draw sweat away from the foot, and you can equip it with a standard orthopedic insole for everyday walking and general use.

A trio of self-massage tools — two balls of varying sizes and a small roller — round out the set, constructed from the same cork as Birkenstock’s original footbeds.
