In 1978, Nike released the first Tailwind at the Honolulu Marathon. What we now look at as a casual running shoe, was a leader in innovation back in the day. It was the first shoe to feature the Air-sole, even before the Air Max line was introduced. The ads for the Tailwind look drastically different from the ads Nike runs today, but the sentiment behind them is still the same. The Tailwind sneakers were built to help marathoners shave off minutes from their time and billed as the driving force behind an ‘increased stamina’ in long-distance running.
While the sneaker went through many iterations between the first iteration and now, Nike brought back the original style as a casual runner for those who love relishing in the past or are looking for a shoe to wear all day long that’s exceptionally comfortable. Back in October, Nike returned the Tailwind to stores with a white upper and blue swoosh. While they’re difficult to find today, supposedly two new colors of the shoe are available starting tomorrow: a royal blue and all black. We recommend keeping an eye out for these two as they’re sure to fly off the shelves.
