Since 2017, running stores everywhere have had issues keeping the Nike Vaporfly 4% running shoes in stock. Data has shown that the sneakers can make you 4 percent faster — and the New York Times was able to verify that claim. And now, the sneaker is getting an upgrade. Nike announced today that the Vaporfly 4% and Zoom Fly both get a re-designed upper, made of Flyknit, just in time for marathon season. Both shoes will be lighter and more breathable. The Zoom Fly will also swap in React foam instead of the Lunarlon, with the same carbon-fiber plate found in the 4%.
Both shoes are still race-day specific and ideally, the new foam will help Zoom Fly last longer, especially considering that the React foam is more durable when compared to Lunarlon foam. In typical Nike fashion, the brand has already had its athletes out running in the 4% and will still be the shoe elites reach for to run during marathon season. The new upper looks just as sleek as 4% and Zoom Fly sneakers of the past with a tapered heel and maximum cushioning underfoot.
The Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% Flyknit will retail for $250, starting October 4, and the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit will retail for $160 starting September 13.
