Under Armour’s newest training sneaker has some pretty distinctive characteristics — the lugs on the outsole remind me of a tire and provide plenty of grip during rope climbs, and the top layer of the upper looks like a slinky with stretchy characteristics to match.
The breathable upper moves more than your typical CrossFit or gym sneaker. The sole is thick, with strategically placed cushioning. Only specific pieces of the sole are soft or reactive (like the HOVR foam or the Nike Epic React Foam). Under Armour strategically layered firm EVA foam with a few plush pieces so you can jump on the treadmill post-weight lifting, but what you’ll notice most is the sturdy and durable non-slip rubber outsole visible in the black patches. The collar hits higher than some of the other CrossFit-ready shoes we’ve tested, so running felt fairly comfortable. But they truly shine in the weight room.
