Allowing you to hit the road without your phone seems to be every fitness brand’s latest goal, and with the launch of Garmin’s Forerunner 645 Music, they’re doing just that. The watch comes with all the bells and whistles Garmin is known for, like spot-on navigation, the ability to track a multitude of activities (running indoors and outdoors, pool swims, cycling, and more), and metrics to help you improve your fitness level, no matter your goal.
The two major additions are the ability to stream music directly from your watch, and integration of Garmin Pay (which is already offered on the vivoactive 3). The idea of leaving your credit card at home while you’re exercising, or just out and about, has been somewhat normalized thanks in part to other trackers that offer it like the Apple Watch Series 3, Samsung Gear Sport and Fitbit Ionic. You can store up to 500 songs directly on the watch or download offline playlists from select music streaming services like iHeartRadio, Deezer, and more. )Spotify is not yet available, but they say it’s coming.) Then all you’ll need is a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
It offers 7 days of battery life, or up to 5 hours in GPS mode, meaning you can complete a half or even a full marathon without losing music.
In terms of looks, the watch has an upgraded look with a metal bezel, chemically strengthened glass, and interchangeable bands.
While not yet shipping, the watch is available for preorder with a black or cerise silicone band for $450. You can also get it without the music capabilities in black or sand for $400.
