Welcome to Talking Points, a series that looks at what makes certain products worth talking about, brought to you by Gear Patrol Studios.

Today, weighted vests remain the most popular type of weighted workout gear. Traditionally, athletes have used weighted vests to boost their calorie burn, improve their running speed and raise their overall endurance. The science is simple: you’re pushing your body and training harder because you’re moving a heavier load.

So when Omorpho launched its new Gravity Sportswear line, the brand opened with a premium G-Vest to cover all its bases. But they went further: alongside that eight to nine-pound vest (the overall weight varies depending on your preferred sizing), Omorpho also developed a new category: micro-weighted apparel.

The team strategically placed small weights across a variety of common pieces like workout leggings, tees and shorts. Consequently, wearing a piece from the Gravity collection feels as natural as reaching for your go-to uniform. Below, we’ll review how this workout gear can enhance your preferred exercise regimen.

The Backstory

Omorpho: A Brand Building Stunning, Futuristic Weighted Workout Gear

There’s one thing that immediately sets Omorpho’s products apart: their good looks. Named after the Greek word for “beautiful,” the brand’s workout apparel is elegant and futuristic.

The brand spent three years developing this specific collection and tested performance across multiple activities like cycling, studio workouts, running, and even dance. Ultimately, the brand found its products can help users boost their calorie burn by up to eight percent, their power output by up to eight percent, jump height by up to nine percent and speed by up to three percent.

Compared to the competition, Omorpho’s lineup is weighted gear you’ll actually want to wear. Weighted apparel from other brands features unwieldy velcro straps and outdated designs, but Omporpho’s models harness breathable, sweat-wicking fabric chosen to keep you cool. The rubbery, rounded weighted elements run across the garment in a fitted, futuristic pattern and look like something out of a stylish science-fiction movie. With sizing and styles available for men and women, the gear looks ultra-contemporary and is obviously built to impress.

The Gist

How Does Omoropho’s Micro-Weighted Workout Gear Actually Work?

Depending on your preferred piece, you can use Omorpho’s gear to target muscles across your core, torso, arms or legs, and many of the brand’s pieces weigh in at just one to three pounds. As a result, you can wear the micro-weighted gear during your usual workouts without adusting your usual routine. Strategically distributing the weight across your body increases the challenge in your active muscles without interfering with your natural movements. Indeed, Omorpho explains that “by keeping the weight light, you can move with nearly the same speed and intensity” while still reaping the benefits of higher-effort activity.

Additionally, true gearheads can ratchet up the challenge by wearing multiple pieces at once. For example, combining the one-pound six-ounce men’s tights with the G-Top Long Sleeve and large G-Vest will add about 15 pounds and push you further.

Our POV

Omorpho’s Gravity Sportswear is Comfortable, Effective and Extremely Cool

As with other products, I had the opportunity to test Omorpho’s leggings and bike shorts across several workouts. The first thing that struck me was the material, which stayed buttery soft and tucked in place through several uphill runs – and washes. Notably, Omorpho’s pieces are machine washable and built to retain the same fit over time.

The rubberized, weighted elements across each piece are soft to the touch and unobtrusive. During my floor workout, the weights added a small challenge without impeding my usual posture. While running uphill, I felt myself pushing slightly harder than on a normal workout but felt no discomfort from the gear itself.

Overall, Omorpho’s fabrics wore better than my usual workout gear, and the weight forced me to push a little harder throughout my routine. More competitive athletes may find that one piece isn’t enough to level up their usual routine, but mixing and matching multiple pieces to dial in targeted weights will get the job done.
