After years of speculation, at-home fitness giant Peloton has put the not-so-secret rumblings to bed:
The rower is coming.
Announced at the brand’s 2022 Homecoming virtual event, the long-awaited rower was introduced in a video of Peloton instructor Adrian Williams showcasing the latest at-home device. Despite the virtual announcement, the status of this all-new home fitness machine has been under wraps, leaving many speculating of its release date. However, a recent tweak to the Peloton API hints that this sleek new rower may still be on course for a 2022 launch.
Here’s what we were able to decipher about the upcoming Peloton rower.
A new software update indicates Peloton is at least preparing for a rower release
Updates to the Peloton API, or application programming interface, are common in order to give athletes and users fresh classes and programs to keep them interested. Still, these classes can give us clues as to what type of workouts they’ll involve, and more importantly, which Peloton device they’re designed for.
The latest API update has done just that, as Peloton updated their class library with a session called “Row Bootcamp.” Rowing bootcamps combine the cardio aspects of rowing with various strength training modalities, and have been regarded as one of the more popular selling points for the upcoming Peloton Rower. Bootcamp-style training tends to favor equipment that can be easily hopped on and off of, like a treadmill or rower — you can’t necessarily swap from clipped-in cycling to strength training without stopping to swap your shoes.
This “Row Bootcamp” addition doesn’t full state when the Peloton rower will launch, but it does say that the brand is at least building programming around the device.
