At some point, while we weren’t looking, the world of sport sort of recommenced. The Tour de France, the bike race all others build up to, kicked off “the season” in August and September. The Giro d’Italia, happening this month, is the second Grand Tour of 2020.
Meanwhile, the London Marathon kicked off as an elite-only race (45,000 or so runners competed virtually), and the MLB playoffs, French Open and NBA Finals are all in progress. Maybe these events wouldn’t have taken us by surprise if we didn’t have our heads buried in a (sand)pile of new gear — more on that below.
Asics Gel-Kayano Lite

Asics is making a habit of lightening up its most popular runners. Its Gel-Nimbus Lite earned a spot on our list of the best running shoes available, and now the company is giving the treatment to another foot-favorite, the Kayano. The Lite version is two not-insubstantial ounces lighter than the Kayano 27, thanks to an engineered mesh upper and new cushioning, but it still packs the support the shoe is known for.
