aeron 4 chair gear patrol full leadCourtesy

Herman Miller Aeron
Save 51%: By virtually any measure, Herman Miller’s Aeron task chair is one of, if not the, greatest desk chair of all-time. Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick’s design features supreme adjustability: seat height, arm height, lumbar support, reclining tension and forward and rear tilt locks. It was the first successful integration of airy mesh into task chair design. Shoot, it even earned a spot in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. Fair or not, any company that releases a high-end office chair today must bear comparison to the Aeron.

Today, the Aeron is 51 percent off on Ebay. These specific products are open-box models, which means they’re somewhere between new and used — so it’s fair to approach with caution (it may be worth contacting the seller before dropping close to $500). That said, this is about as affordable as an Aeron will go for. — Will Price

burrow-sale-gear-patrol-full-lead

Burrow Sofas
Save Up to $600: Available upholstered and in leather, Burrow’s sofas ship in pieces that can be assembled or disassembled in about 15 minutes, making it the perfect renter’s sofa. The frame is birch wood, the legs are oak and there’s a nifty charging cable built into the base. While not as low as Ikea, it’s prices are fair (full-size couches start at $1,395). Now and until September 9, those prices are a bit better.

The company’s Labor Day sale is now live, offering sitewide discounts that scale with your order total — $50 off for $500 orders, $150 off for $1,100 orders and all the way up to $600 off for $2,600 orders. Backcountry-Osprey-Sale-gear-patrol-full-lead

Osprey Backpacks

Beyond that, the company consistently finds the middle ground between lightweight minimalism and useful features. Right now, most of them are also on sale with a nice 25 percent chunk taken off the price.

The collection of discounted packs includes the award-winning Aether AG, a bag that’s ideal for multi-day treks and foreign travel. micro puff sale gear patrol full leadPatagonia

Patagonia Micro Puff Jacket
Save $100: Since it came out in the fall of 2017, Patagonia’s Micro Puff Jacket has been our choice for the best synthetic insulated jacket. Simply put, it strikes the perfect balance of warmth and weight (it’s the lightest insulated jacket that Patagonia has made to date). The secret to its innovation is a new type of insulation called PlumaFill that’s made up of down-mimicking polyester fibers that are secured together in one continuous, fluffy line, which zig-zags around beneath its ripstop nylon shell.

The Micro Puff has been such a success that Patagonia used it as the base for the Micro Puff Storm, a waterproof version of the jacket that came out in Fall 2018. Patagonia also recently released the Macro Puff, a heavier and warmer puffy jacket that uses a heartier helping of PlumaFill (and will likely be in as high demand as the Micro Puff).

That Patagonia has released variations of the Micro Puff by no means makes the jacket obsolete. If anything, it’s further verification that it, and it’s fluffy filling, work pretty damn well. Not just in winter either — the Micro Puff’s lightweight warmth makes it ideal for cool autumn nights and mornings as well as mountain adventures, too. Right now the Micro Puff is 40 percent off in past season colors — a savings of $100. — Tanner Bowden

Rhone-Running-Shorts-gear-patrol-full-lead

Rhone Gym Short Sale
Save 60%: A crucial aspect of any workout is comfort — not just how your body feels, but what you’re wearing. It’s why the perpetually active can debate the merits of even the simplest piece of clothing, like a pair of shorts: details like pocket placement, waistband material and whether they include a built-in liner means the discerning consumer will find significant variability among available products.

Rhone tackles the finer points of workout shorts — for the gym, for running, for yoga and more — in creative (and comfortable) ways. Many of our favorite models, including those preferred by professional trainers, are currently on sale for an extra 40 percent off with code SaveSummer40. You can snag a pair of $78 shorts for just $32. There are a plethora of colors and styles available during Rhone’s surplus summer sale, so get them while you can. — Tanner Bowden

TNF-Jacket-gear-patrol-full-lead

The North Face Summit L3 Ventrix Hoodie
Save $65: The North Face was late to ultra-breathable active insulation game. But when it ultimately made an entry with Ventrix in Fall 2017, it was easy to forgive the lag. Like other synthetic insulation, you can think of Ventrix as an alternative to down that’s more water-resistant, if a little less packable. But The North Face made sure to make it different; the polyester fluff is breathable because it has laser-cut perforations that open and close with motion. The idea here is that a jacket like the Summit L3 Ventrix Hoodie, for instance, works to keep you cooler during activity and warmer during rest.

It works remarkably well. We’ve skied, hiked and commuted in Ventrix in various forms cooked up by The North Face. The Summit L3 Ventrix Hoodie tops the list — and earned a spot in our ranking of the best synthetic down jackets available — and right now you can get it for 25 percent (that’s $65) off. Not bad, considering cold temperatures are only weeks away. — Tanner Bowden
