MacBook-Air-Sale-gear-patrol-full-leadApple

2018 MacBook Air
Save Between $100 and $150: Apple announced the 2018 MacBook Air less than two months ago and, besides the fact that Apple should’ve released this same laptop two years ago, the laptop has received universal praise. Basically, if you’re looking to buy a new laptop and you want to live in Apple’s ecosystem, this new MacBook Air is the one to buy. It’s thin and lightweight. It has a beautiful Retina display. It has terrific battery life. It comes with Touch ID, so you can unlock it by just pressing your finger on the fingerprint sensor. And the best news? It’s already on sale. Normally priced at $1,199 for the 128GB model and $1,399 for the 256GB model, but Amazon has cut those prices by $150 and $100, respectively. Those are two pretty good deals. In all honesty, it’s probably worth going with the 256GB model because, frankly, you’ll want the extra storage — this is hopefully the computer you’ll have for the next 4 or 5 years, after all.

Danner-Vertigo-917-Gear-Patrol-lead-full

Danner Vertigo 917
Save $65: Usually, when a company has been around for close to a century, it’s developed an iconic product or two. For Danner, that might be its easily-recognized Mountain Light, which is a modern retooling of the brand’s very first hiking boot, the 6490. The Mountain Light is made with full-grain leather and a stout Vibram rubber outsole. The design is chunky and outdoorsy in all the right ways, which is why the boot has found its way onto the feet of city dwellers in addition to hikers. But Danner also makes boots explicitly with urban life in mind.
One such pair is the Vertigo 917. Like the Mountain Light, it’s made with full-grain leather and Vibram rubber, but its platform is cushioned with a responsive midsole and its shank is made of nylon. It’s a more forgiving construction that still hits the same aesthetic notes but won’t be as hard on feet during a full day of tromping on sidewalks and asphalt. Right now, they’re 30 percent off at Huckberry for a total savings of $65. — Tanner Bowden

RM-Williams-Comfort-Turnout-Gear-Patrol-Lead-Full

R.M. Williams Comfort Turnout Chelsea Boots
Save $99:R.M. Williams is to Australia what Red Wing is to America. Founded in 1932, the storied boot brand is as much a standard bearer as it is an integral part of the culture. When Reginald Murray Williams first founded the brand, he offered saddles, riding boots and other leather goods for cattlemen. As time passed, the boots became his standout seller. Made from a single-piece leather upper, they had a clean silhouette, a simple pull-on style and superior durability. And over the past eight decades, the design hasn’t changed much.

If you’re looking for a pair of rugged pull-on boots to add to your wardrobe, head over to East Dane. You can save $99 on a pair of R.M. Williams Comfort Turnout Boots. The Goodyear-welted style features a eucalyptus-colored leather upper and a rubber sole for added traction in slippery conditions. While still expensive at just under $400, they’re a worthwhile investment, designed to stand up to decades of wear. — John Zientek

Breville-Precision-Brewer-Gear-Patrol-lead-fullBreville

Breville Precision Coffee Maker
Save $100 Breville’s Precision coffee maker is the most powerful, advanced coffee maker regular people can buy.

Beyond brewing Gold Cup standard pots of coffee and holding an SCA certification, it also allows you to customize brewing options like flow rate, bloom time and water temperature. It’s the only coffee maker that can brew with flat bottom filters and cone filters. There’s even an attachment that allows you to insert you favorite pour-over brew device and let the machine do the work. Its heating system is one that warms water as it travels to the shower head, meaning you don’t have to wait minutes for the water to come to temperature.

Its downsides, few that they are, are its size and price. It’s worth comparing its height to the space between your countertop and kitchen cabinets. As for price, Breville just cut $100 off its hefty $300 tag on Amazon — good for the lowest price the Precision brewer has ever been. —Will Price

Nike-React-Deal-gear-patrol-lead-full

Nike React Sneaker Sale
Save $60 Back in April, Nike shut down the 90 Freeway in LA, just as they closed off the Manhattan bridge to celebrate the launch of the new Epic React and React foam. I’ve been running in the Epic Reacts since January of this year, and they’re still the shoe I reach for when I want to feel fast. That and the Odyssey Reacts are ripe for a 5K, 10K or even 15K race. Each is light and springy with plenty of cushion underfoot to keep you feeling like you’re on marshmallows. Both are for neutral runners and weigh less than 10 ounces so that you won’t feel the toll after hundreds of miles. Shop both styles today at JackRabbit and save up to $60. It’s just the kick you need to start logging miles in 2019. — Meg Lappe

Dyson-Cyclone-V10-Gear-Patrol-Lead-Full

Dyson V10
Save $220 Released earlier this year, Dyson’s V10 vacuum is the machine that prompted the vacuum giant to cease production and R&D for corded vacuums altogether. It features more power and battery than any cordless vacuum to date, and it’s HEPA-certified filtration system is now fully washable. Emptying the dustbin is also much simpler (and cleaner) now — just slide the handle on the bin forward and it empties in front of your hand, instead of all over it.

Today, the V10 Animal is close to 40 percent off — good for its lowest price ever on Amazon. The “Animal” part of the model name just references the number of additional detachable vacuum heads come with it (Dyson has a breakdown of what you get at the bottom of this page). —Will Price

Orient-Mako-II-Deal-gear-patrol-lead-full

Orient Mako II
Save $195: There is some kind of sick pleasure derived from confronting those who believe “a good watch is expensive” with incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. Sure, you can drop $8k on a superlative dive watch, but if you know where to look, there are certainly deals to be had on perfectly great timepieces that, if properly cared for, will give you a lifetime of use.

I admittedly tire of saying it, but Orient is one of Gear Patrol’s favorite makers of affordable tool watches: as they’re a division of Seiko, it’s no wonder that the Japanese brand can produce a great in-house automatic movement to power an attractive, utilitarian watch for not a ton of money. Take by way of example the Mako II: you get the new and improved Orient F6922 automatic movement with hand-winding capability and hacking seconds, a precise 120-click bezel, a mineral crystal, a 41.5mm stainless steel case, a stainless steel bracelet and 200m of water resistance.

Available with a black dial with black bezel, blue dial with blue bezel or blue dial with a blue bezel in which the first 15 minutes are demarcated in red, this is a ton of value in a $325 watch, but right now you cab nab the Mako II on Massdrop for the almost laughably low price of $130. So if you’re getting the hell out of Dodge and heading down to the Caribbean for the holiday, and you don’t yet have a dive watch, you know what to do. — Oren Hartov

UO-Home-Sale-gear-patrol-full-lead

Urban Outfitters’ Home Gear
Save Up to 60% The home of weird t-shirt collaborations and multi-colored Vans is also a surprisingly good spot for relatively cheap furniture and home gear. Though Urban’s home section will require sifting through — boho-inspired baskets and oddly colored twists on mid-century-modern furniture make up a large part — there’s a lot of nice, simple and good-looking stuff to dig up.

Right now, more than 250 pieces from its collection are discounted up to 60 percent off in its home decor sale. This includes the aforementioned wicker baskets and other weirdness, but the gems are there too. We rounded up a few we like below. —Will Price

Roland-Sands-Jeans-Gear-Patrol-lead-full

Roland Sands Dalton Jeans
Save 20%On average, motorcycle jeans tend to be oddly cut to maximize space for knee and hip armor protection and are overly stiff for abrasion resistance. The Roland Sands Dalton Jeans are 70 percent cotton and 30 percent kevlar construction and are low rise with a slim-straight fit. The Dalton Jeans might not have the extra reinforcement of armor at the knees and hips, but the kevlar infused denim claws back some of the protection to make them more road worthy than a regular pair of Levi’s. —Bryan Campbell

Anglepoise-Deal-Gear-Patrol-lead-full

Anglepoise Type 1227 Lamp
Save 40% Anglepoise has been making its classic spring-balanced lamps since the 1930s, and between its inception and today it’s found itself in museums, on postage stamps and, most importantly, on the desks and floors of homes across the globe.

Today, during YLighting’s Warehouse sale, the British company’s original model — the Type 1227 — can be had for way under its regular price. Usually just about $300, it’s just $186 today with code 10MORE applied at checkout. It’s worth noting that these deals come courtesty of open box returns, but are in new conditions, according to YLighting (plus, shipping is free). —Will Price

YETI-Panga-50L-gear-patrol-lead-full

Yeti Panga Duffel
Save 30%: In 2018, Yeti made its most significant departure from the cooler that made the brand a cult-favorite with the introduction of a soft-sided everyday backpack called the Tocayo. The pack represents a slow expansion of the company’s products beyond insulated coolers and drinkware that started over a year ago with the introduction of the Panga Duffel. At that time, the Panga felt incremental — it drew on the success of Yeti’s soft-sided coolers, removing the insulation but keeping the abrasion-resistant laminated nylon shell and waterproof construction. The Panga is as burly as duffels get — and it’s currently 30 percent off at Huckberry until midnight tonight.
Yeti products are rarely marked down this much, so if the Panga is on your wishlist, act fast. The duffel is available in 50- and 75-liter capacities. Huckberry’s discount extends to bags from other brands including Goruck, Topo Designs, Hydro Flask and more. The discount is applied at checkout. — Tanner Bowden

amazonbasics kettle bellAmazon

AmazonBasics Enamel Kettlebells
Save up to 26%: You know this: in less than two weeks one year will end, and another will begin, and you’ll consider all the goals you’d like to accomplish in the 12 months that follow. Getting in shape is a common one. As an alternative to a pricey gym membership, consider upgrading your home gym setup. Sure, this can be expensive too, but it doesn’t have to be. Essential fitness tools can be affordable, like AmazonBasics’ kettlebells, which are currently on sale for up to 26 percent off.

Crossfit has helped bolster kettlebells’ reputation as a must-have gym item and a dynamic alternative to dumbbells. They can be used to increase the results of rows, deadlifts and squats, and a properly-executed kettlebell swing can increase strength, speed and explosiveness. All this from a hunk of iron with a handle attached. AmazonBasics makes its kettlebells from cast iron and coats them in enamel for a smooth feel and appearance. Given that some kettlebells can cost as much as $200, it’s a considerable deal — Amazon’s kettlebells range from ten to 60 pounds and cost as little as $15 — and one that could have you looking at a productive 2019 starting on day one. — Tanner Bowden

Le-Creuset-sale-gear-patrol-full-lead

Le Creuset Dutch oven
Save 20% In the pecking order of grail-worthy kitchen buys, few items are more storied, useful and long-lasting than a Le Creuset Dutch oven.

The old French company’s pot is unlike virtually every other competitor on the market, and that’s a good thing. It’s thinner and lighter than its rivals (from Staub to Lodge), which makes it easier to handle and heat more quickly. Its lid strikes the ideal balance between steam release and moisture retention, which makes for better, richer braises, stews and the like. And the creamy white cooking surface, though it will being discoloring after prolonged use, makes tracking the progress of browning a whole lot easier than the black interiors of its competitors.

But Le Creuset’s cookware is grail-worthy for a reason — the price. The classic 5.5-quart Dutch oven usually costs in the neighborhood of $350. Today, it’s 20 percent off, or $272 (only the yellow color).

Amazonbasics-Hiking-Backpack-gear-patrol-full-leadAmazon

AmazonBasics’ Backpacking Backpack

Keep your neck and shoulders free of redness and chafing with adjustable and padded shoulder straps. The bag comes in a 75-, 65- or 55-liter capacities. Amazon priced the packs at a dollar per liter, but right now they’re all on sale for up to 48 percent off, making them the cheapest backpacking backpacks we’ve ever seen.

It’s so cheap in fact, that we’ve decided to purchase one ourselves to find out how it stacks up to the high-end packs we’re used to carrying into the wilderness (we’ll share our findings when we come to a conclusion). So no, we can’t vouch for this backpack’s quality, but many of the AmazonBasics products that we’ve tested so far have outperformed their price tags, and if all you’re looking for is something basic, this might be it. — Tanner Bowden

Instant-Pot-Smart-6qt-Gear-Patrol-Lead-Full

Instant Pot Smart Wifi
Save 40% It is the Friday before Christmas and you’ve completely forgotten to get a gift for someone. Luckily, if that someone likes to cook, likes to eat food or lacks the time to smoke ribs the usual way, you’re in luck: Instant Pot’s 6-Quart Smart Wifi pot is 40 percent off on Amazon today and, according to Amazon, will arrive pre-Christmas.

The Smart Wifi Instant Pot is one of the less-recommended models, but not because it can’t do what other Instant Pots can; it’s mostly knocked because Instant Pot’s app, a key feature on the Smart model, is fairly inconsistent (I’ve also had problems with updates causing connectivity issues). The good news: it’s got buttons on the front just like every other Instant Pot out there and, today, it’s the best deal of the bunch. —Will Price

Todd-Snyder-Dylan-Jacket-gear-patrol-lead-full

Todd Snyder Dylan Shearling Suede Jacket
Save 40%:New York designer Todd Snyder gave the classic trucker jacket a major overhaul this season. Instead of crafting the casual style in denim or roughout suede, he opted to use sueded merino shearling. Made in Italy, the Dylan Shearling Suede Jacket features a slim fit and includes two chest pockets and two handwarmer pockets. Available in sizes XS to XXL, the jacket is now 40 percent off and costs just over $1,000. Normally for a trucker jacket, that’s a lot of money. But in this case, for an Italian-made shearling trucker, it’s incredibly reasonable. — John Zientek

CRKT-Swindle-Knife-gear-patrol-full-leadCRKT

CRKT Swindle
Save 37%: Deception lies at the core of CRKT’s aptly-named Swindle pocket knife. Closed, the Swindle appears to be a fairly-typical folder with a thumb stud opening. But the stud isn’t mounted to the knife’s spine; in fact, it isn’t part of the blade at all. The actual knife blade betrays conventional designs, deploying with a flipper tap from the other side to produce what CRKT describes as an “uphill curve.” The decoy stud isn’t just that either — that bit of protruding steel is an equally-unique, spring-assisted pocket clip that leaves the Swindle’s handle smooth.

Designed by revered knife maker Ken Onion, the Swindle won the award for “Most Innovative Imported Design” at the 2013 Blade Show and has continued in CRKT’s production line since. The blade is just over three inches and comes in two versions — one made of high-carbon steel, and a premium version with Sandvik stainless steel and a milled handle. Both are currently on sale at Amazon — the basic for 37% off and the premium for 42% off. — Tanner Bowden
