Woolrich Camp Blanket
Save 16%: Now that they’ve adopted the same ripstop nylon exterior and warm fluffy interior found in sleeping bags, camp blankets have staked their resolute claim as functional outdoor bedding. Like that more traditional backcountry sleep sack, these new blankets are super-light, highly packable and incredibly warm. This newness hasn’t made long-established outdoor blankets obsolete either (if anything, it’s helped popularize them again). Those original blankets were made of wool, and there are some, like Woolrich in Pennsylvania, that continue to use the material to produce fabrics that are durable, warm and satisfyingly heavy. Plus, they look as good on a bed or couch inside as they do at a campsite.

Moccamaster KBS Coffee Maker
Save $120 Among the Moccamaster’s features and accolades, two things are most crucial: copper tube heating and the ability to disassemble. Copper coils, given the material’s natural heat conductivity, heat the water much more quickly than machines using steel or other methods (the only machine we’ve tested that brews faster is Breville’s Precision Brewer). The ability to take the whole thing apart is also unique, and allows for troubleshooting at fixing at home rather than losing your source of coffee to the mail for a few weeks (it’s also great for cleaning the machine).

Today, Moccamaster’s KBS model is more than $100 off on Massdrop. It’s basically a blacked-out version that uses a glass carafe and hot plate rather than the classic stainless steel thermo-carafe.

Sonos One
Save Up to $50: During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Sonos offered its Sonos One speaker for $25 off, from $199 down to $175, but that deal has since dried up. Fortunately, it’s still a great time to buy this entry-level, Alexa-integrated speaker as Sonos is running another holiday deal; you can buy one Sonos One for $20 off, from $199 down to $179, which isn’t quite as good of a deal as before but it’s still decent. Garmin Forerunner Sale
Save $130:Garmin pumps out some of the best GPS running watches available. It starts with the Forerunner 25 and moves up to the 935 (at a cool $500). The higher the number, the more bells and whistles the smartwatch has, and the greater the price. The Garmin Forerunner 235 is a solid pick for someone who doesn’t want to spend $500 on a smartwatch but needs it to track every single run with just the push of a button. The 235 monitors your VO2 max and heart rate throughout the day, so you can keep up with your physical fitness levels and make sure they’re all in alignment. The battery life of 12 hours or possibly 12 weeks (depending if you use GPS tracking) is hard to match. A colorful watch face comes in three different watch bands: black, red or light blue.

Typically, the Forerunner 235 is $330 but is $130 off today. If you’re looking to spend less than $200 for a watch that still has GPS, it’s worth checking out the Forerunner 35, which is also on sale for $60 off. Pick one and get running. — Meg Lappe

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest SOLite Sleeping Pad
Save 53%: There are three main types of sleeping pad: air pads, self-inflating pads and closed cell pads. Air pads, which are like packable, miniaturized versions of the full-sized inflatable beds you might buy to accommodate guests in your home, have quickly become popular because they’re the lightest and the most comfortable option. But closed-cell sleeping pads — the old school type made of foam that look like ridged yoga mats — shouldn’t be disregarded, and here’s why.

The main reason to opt for a closed-cell pad over an air mattress is durability. These pads will never puncture, and you’ll never wake up in the middle of the night to find that a tiny, indiscernible hole has brought you down to the cold ground. In this same vein, closed-cell pads are weatherproof. This is why you’ll often see long distance thru-hikers with these pads strapped to the outside of their backpacks — during multi-day treks through remote terrain a deflated sleeping pad isn’t an option. (Foam pads also make for handy seats when picnic tables aren’t available.)

Closed-cell pads gain that durability without adding too much additional weight, and they’re plenty warm also (they’re ideal for winter camping). What’s the downside then? They’re bulky, and not as comfortable as air pads. In the end, choosing the right sleeping pad will depend on the type of trip you’re setting out on, but there is one more factor to consider: price. Closed-cell pads are far and away the cheapest available — even the best of them can cost as little as $40, but there are great options available for even less.

Sony MP-CD1 Portable Projector
Save $100: Earlier this year I reviewed the Sony MP-CD1, the company’s 2018-released pico projector that can work with pretty much all the latest laptops, smartphones or gaming consoles to produce a 100-inch screen. It’s straightforward to use. It’s travel-friendly. And it has a decent 2.5-hour battery life. And Sony just dropped the price by $100, so the normally $400 pico projector is now $300.

Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 Tent
Save 50%: Unlike sleeping bags, backpacks, headlamps, jackets, skis — every piece of outdoor equipment really — tents don’t adhere to the same seasonal schedule of innovation and updates. It’s because even tents from years ago were built with high-quality materials that expertly blend durability with low weight — there’s not a ton of room for improvement (although a handful of companies are indeed producing creative new designs). But it’s also a result of the fact that tents are big purchases that generally last a long time, a characteristic that’s bolstered by the fact that tents are also easy to repair. A casual outdoorsy type might replace a ski jacket after two years but use the same tent for 10. Before I bought my own tent, which I’ve had for four years, I borrowed from my dad the one he purchased more than 25 years ago.

All this is to say that you shouldn’t have any misgivings about purchasing a tent that a company has had in its catalog for a while. With tents, the latest and greatest isn’t always the best, and that’s why Mountain Hardwear’s Optic 2.5, which the company released in 2014, is still a good purchase. The tent is more for casual campers than die-hard backpackers; it weighs over five pounds but has a roomy interior that fits two people plus gear (or a dog) and a unique door arrangement that provides 180-degree views from inside. Bunn BX-B 10-Cup Coffee Maker
Save $29 The engineering behind making consistently great cups of coffee is not to be taken lightly. The drip brewer must heat water to an exact temperature, pre-infuse the grounds, water the entirety of the brew bed evenly and pull a precise amount of coffee solids (the stuff that makes coffee taste like coffee). And it’s gotta do all these things in less than five minutes or we get ornery.

A lot of credit is given to the rigor of the Specialty Coffee Association’s home brewer program, and for good reason — it’s the most difficult to achieve certification stamp in the coffee world. But there’s barely 15 brewers on its list, and all of them sell for north of $100 (and up to $350). Bunn, a company steeped in coffee-making history, mostly works on the commercial side of the business (you’ve probably seen its grinders in your grocery store or local coffee shop), but its small line of home coffee makers is no joke.

Bunn’s 10-cup BX-B home brewer is among the very best of affordable coffee makers and does everything a great coffee maker needs to and, thanks to a pre-heated water tank, could very well be the quickest brew out there. In testing, the BX-B brewer brewed its maximum load of coffee in 3 minutes and 10 seconds. That is lightning quick. The downside to this is it is using a small amount of power whenever it’s plugged in, but if good and fast coffee is what you’re after, it’s hard to beat.

L.L.Bean Packaway Jacket
Save 25%: Price doesn’t always denote quality, but in down and synthetic insulation jackets, it can give you a pretty good clue as to how warm, packable and durable they’ll be. Usually, the lightest and warmest are the most expensive. But in the case of L.L.Bean’s PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket, that rule deflates.

The Packaway is a synthetic jacket, so it’s a water-resistant and sturdy alternative to down. The fluffy fill inside these types of jackets is sometimes seen as inferior to down because it doesn’t provide as much warmth for its weight, but thanks to manufacturing advances, synthetic insulation is catching up. Inside the Packaway is PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core technology, which was initially developed for NASA and uses aerogels to increase warmth without doing the same to weight.

For comparison, Patagonia’s highly-favored Nano Puff Jacket relies on PrimaLoft Gold too but doesn’t include Cross Core. That jacket costs $199, but L.L.Bean’s Packaway is only $159.
