Au Sabot Le Thiers Pocket Knife
Save 26%: France is the gravitational center of the culinary world, so it’s fitting that the country also produces some of the finest cutlery available. The focal point of that industry is Thiers, a town in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region that’s home to roughly one hundred knife making companies as well as a museum dedicated to the art and process. Thiers blades aren’t just for chefs though; knives of every kind are created there, including Au Sabot’s Le Thiers pocket knife, which is currently 26 percent off at Huckberry.

Au Sabot’s ode to Thiers is a handsome folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade made of carbon steel that’s available with handles made of hardwoods like rosewood and olive as well as more exotic materials like the horn of African buffalo. The sheer variety of blade shapes and availability of materials mean that the possibilities for knife designs are endless — in just the last year we’ve seen the release of miniature cleavers and coin-shaped folders. Cast-Iron Chicken Fryer
Save 15%The Dutch oven is a kitchen essential. Few pieces of cook or kitchenware are as multifunctional as the Dutch oven, and even fewer have the potential to outlive you. That all said, they are often pricey and large (especially the oval-shaped ones), two qualifying factors that don’t agree with everyone’s kitchen situation.

Enter, the chicken fryer, savior of small stovetops. Those pour spouts also create a lid that isn’t airtight (though no dutch oven lids are airtight at all), which allows more liquid to boil off, making it ideal for reducing soups and other liquid-heavy dishes (I’m talking about chili) into a thicker, richer spot.

CRKT Swindle Pocket Knife
Save 45%: Deception lies at the core of CRKT’s aptly-named Swindle pocket knife. Closed, the Swindle appears to be a fairly-typical folder with a thumb stud opening. But the stud isn’t mounted to the knife’s spine; in fact, it isn’t part of the blade at all. The actual knife blade betrays conventional designs, deploying with a flipper tap from the other side to produce what CRKT describes as an “uphill curve.” The decoy stud isn’t just that either — that bit of protruding steel is an equally-unique, spring-assisted pocket clip that leaves the Swindle’s handle smooth.

Designed by revered knife maker Ken Onion, the Swindle won the award for “Most Innovative Imported Design” at the 2013 Blade Show and has continued in CRKT’s production line since. Save 30%We write a lot about cordless vacuums and robot vacuums. Mostly, because for the majority of people out there one or the other is the best for their situation — cordless for smaller homes and general use, and robot for larger homes with a side of lethargy. The canister vacuums from Miele, which Wirecutter once called “just about the best you can get in cleaning,” is not for everyone — but for those it is for, it’s the best, and two of its entry-level models are on sale today.

The Compact C2 Electro (the one mentioned in the Wirecutter article) and the Compact C1 are both at the lowest price we’ve seen them in a while today. The upshot on these vacuums — if you or a person in your home have asthma, persistent allergy issues, are seroius about the quality of the air in your place or serioius despise dust, these are the vacuums to get.

As a general rule, canister vacuums create far more suction than any cordless or corded upright vacuums, and have far more space for filtration systems. It should be noted these vacuums are not bagless, so you’ll have to remember to keep up with buying those (the bags fill up very quickly if you have shedding animals in your home).

Dyson’s cordless vacuums — though very effective while operating — are battery-dependent, and can’t run for more than 40 to 50 minutes on the lowest suction setting. The corded variety, though older, allow you to clean at peak suction for as long as you like (this is especially useful if you have pets that shed, as you’ll need max suction to untangle the hair from carpet and rugs).
