The Leica M Monochrom is a black-and-white shooter for photographers who are ready to make a serious commitment to monochrome — and demands a pretty serious price tag. That said, it’s currently the cheapest it’s ever been. Amazon and B&H are both selling the normally $7,595 digital camera for $5,995. It’s still a serious chunk of change, but we are talking about a discount of over $1,000.
The Leica M Monochrom is a rangefinder-style digital camera that was released in 2012. It has a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor and flexible ISO (320-25600), so it can capture excellent monochrome photos.
Of course, it is only for a very specific subset of shooters. It only shoots black-and-white photos, it’s expensive and its rangefinder design makes it uniquely challenging to use versus modern digital cameras. Not only does it lack autofocus, it also and lacks modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC. Plus, it can only shoot video up to 1080p, so you’re probably not going to film much with it.
