The Nest Protect is the company’s new-and-improved smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector, and it’s been named the “best smart smoke detector” by numerous tech publications, including Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide and Lifewire.
What sets the Nest Protect apart is its innovative features, such as early warning signals (it will tell you if you’re burning something in the kitchen, for example even before the alarm goes off) and its ability to tell you exactly where the danger is coming from when the alarm does go off. It also works with a number of other smart home devices, such as any Google Home speaker, various third-party smart plugs, and even Philips Hue smart lights (when the Nest Protect’s alarm sounds, you can set it up so your Philips Hue lights turn on too.)
The Google Store sells the Nest Protect for $119 a pop, which is fairly expensive, but if you’re willing to buy a two-pack (which is perfect for larger homes), Home Depot is running a pretty good deal: buy two Nest Protects for $190, which is almost $50 off.
