The Timex Expedition Scout is one of our favorite affordable field watches. Available in more dial colors, strap options and case colors than you can shake a stick at, the variant pictured above is, to our minds, perhaps the purest expression of the field watch: a black dial with 24-hour scale and luminous hands, basic water resistance (50m) and a tan-colored fabric strap, reminiscent of those of old military watches.
This particular iteration features a modern 40mm brass case, a 20mm lug width for use with a variety of aftermarket straps, and INDIGLO lighting (push the crown in and the dial lights up). For $30, this is the perfect beater watch for hiking, climbing and more.
