The Old Connect:Amp Is Still the Best Sonos Receiver for Most People

It essentially turns your old passive speakers into wireless Sonos speakers.

The Sonos Connect:Amp has been around for over a decade. It’s an amplified receiver that integrates unpowered speaker pairs into a Sonos wireless system. Essentially, it lets you use your old passive speakers just like Sonos speakers. Last fall, however, Sonos introduced its new Amp, which is an all-around better version of the Connect:Amp. The new Amp is twice as powerful and has an HDMI ARC port, so you can also hook it directly to your TV and play your TV’s audio throughout your house. The new Sonos Amp just went on sale in early 2019.

Sonos still sells the Connect:Amp for $499, which is still the better option for anybody who doesn’t need to power really expensive speakers or hook up their speakers to their TV (the Amp essentially works as an AV receiver). Right now, you can find discounted Connect:Amp models on eBay and B&H for roughly $370, although they are refurbished.
