The robot vacuum market has been dominated by iRobot’s Roombas since their introduction in 2002. But the company’s domination in cleaning robot tech comes at a price — a really, really high price.
Where companies like Eufy, Ecovac and Deebot (and many others) mostly stick to a $200 to $300 price range, Roombas prices climb up to $1,000 for its newest models. Why? In general, Roombas are heavier, have longer-lasting batteries and have significantly more powerful suction — especially the higher-end models.
Today on Ebay, the Roomba 980 — a model discontinued with the release of the brand new i7 and i7+ — is deeply discounted. The 980 is one of those higher end models, and is controlled with an app on your smartphone that alerts you when the machine needs emptying, is recharging or gets stuck somewhere. It also allows you to schedule and run the machine without being connected to the same wifi, a fairly rare feature in robo-vacs.
It should be noted that this particular sale model is a manufacturer refurb, which the seller notes has “been professionally inspected, tested, and cleaned. 100% Functional, cosmetically will show very little to no signs of usage.” It’s $420 off right now.
