OtterBox was once known as the maker of some of the most protective smartphone cases available. I say “once” because now it’s known for much more than that, due to a calculated move to use its expertise to expand into rugged outdoor products, starting with hard and soft coolers, a duffel bag, and drinkware. The new products hold their own too — after testing both the soft-sided Trooper and the hard-sided Venture coolers against brands that have been around for years, we concluded that both are among the best currently available. Unlike many of those other coolers though, OtterBox’s add a touch of modular customization with a line of accessories including a drybox, bottle opener and cup holder that can be attached and removed as desired.
