There are hundreds of drip coffee makers in the world, but only 14 have earned the Specialty Coffee Association’s stamp of approval. The Certified Home Brewer Program is the most rigorous third-party coffee maker certification there is.
Today, two coffee makers from some of coffee’s biggest names — OXO and Breville — are on sale on Amazon, and both are SCA-certified.
The Breville Precision Brewer ($240) and the OXO Barista Brain ($160) both produce excellent cups of coffee. For the prospective buyer, the Breville machine comes with more brew options and a bit more in the way of customizing your brew, and is a good bit faster to brew (this is thanks to a unique water heating system). The OXO brewer is a bit more compact (measure the space between your counter and cabinets before purchasing either) and straightforward, though, and is likely the better choice for the person who wants the easiest route to great coffee.
