Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down layers offer so much versatility at such an accessible price that it’s almost silly not to have one. They are, as the name suggests, genuinely lightweight and fold up into a compact pouch so you can use it for travel, or take it with you on your commute just in case. They’re thin and basic enough to work as a versatile layer, but they’re also warm enough to function on their own during not-quite-dead-of-winter weather. The shell is made from lightweight 20 denier nylon, and the fill is 90 percent down with a fill power of more than 640, according to the brand.
Better yet are the prices, which range from $50 for a vest to $130 for a mid-length parka. But right now, Uniqlo is offering an extra $10 off every style. Obviously, that benefits you more if you’re buying a lower-priced layer, but regardless, it just made one of the greatest values in menswear an even better one.
