Knife designers are proving that conventions are made to be broken. Take CKRT’s Deviation. The pocket knife is a far cry from the wooden-handled folding blades that are now considered classic or even the steel-plus-black-handle convention that’s prevalent today. It’s futuristic and angular, like a piece of scrap metal jettisoned from an alien satellite (we mean this in a good way).
None of this means the Deviation won’t make a reliable daily driver though. Its 3.1-inch blade is made of 8Cr14MoV stainless steel, which allows for a sharp edge and is reasonably corrosion-resistant. Designer Terry Lee Renner gave it a slim tanto shape with a satin finish on the flat side, and polished mirror finishes on the bevels and swedge. The contrast created by the different finishes compliments that which is displayed in the handle’s raw and colored planes.
