This time last year, I was already a couple of weeks into my training for the New York City marathon. It was my first 26.2 and I was nervous. Over the course of my 16-week training plan, the weather, distance and gear I wore changed with every single run. The one constant was my pair of shoes.

After measuring my feet at New York Road Runner’s HQ, I walked out with a pair of Fresh Foam 1080s. The bright blue mesh upper speckled with pops of green would become my sole companion for many of my distance runs that summer. These neutral cushioned sneakers were relatively lightweight considering how much foam was underfoot.

I’m a big fan of the Fresh Foam feeling, so sliding into these was similar to my running days in the Vazee Pace. There was no break-in period thanks to the engineered mesh and an ortholite insert. At just $90 today, it’s a hard deal to beat for marathon sneakers or any long-distance runner. I’m not running a marathon this year, but these are the shoes I’d trust to get me through another one.
