Those up to date with the latest product news will know that Apple recently announced a new cheap iPad, starting at $329. The big difference between last year’s and this year’s models is that the 2018 iPad supports Apple Pencil. It has an upgraded processor, too. But everything else between the two iPads is pretty much the same.

The catch is that even though the new iPad supports Apple Pencil, you need still need to purchase said Apple Pencil separately. And it costs $99. So to get the most out of this new iPad you essentially have to pay $429, which starts to get into the ballpark of “not that cheap.”

You can’t buy the 2017 iPad anymore from Apple because the new model has taken its place. However, if you don’t care about using the Apple Pencil — and a lot of people don’t — because you just want a cheap iPad to answer emails and watch Netflix, you can get a brand new 2017 iPad for $270 on eBay. Essentially, you’re saving $59, or $159 when you factor in the price of the Apple Pencil, for a brand new (if slightly dated) iPad.
