I’m very curious to see just how good the Apple HomePod will be, especially given the home audio competition that’s about to go down. As a gear fan, you likely feel the same way, so stay tuned for our impressions. Sonos, Apple’s biggest competitor in the space, just went gloves off ahead of the forthcoming territory war with the announcement of the Sonos One bundle.
For $349, you’ll get two of the popular Alexa-enabled speakers — exactly the same cost as one new HomePod. (The bundle saves you $50 overall.) It’s more than just a good financial play for buyers — it’s also a logistical one: since the Sonos speakers work on a linked system, for the same price as a single-room Apple HomePod, you’ll be able to circulate music (and whatever else you use your Sonos for) in multiple rooms.
