VW is killing off the Golf GTI’s manual after the 2024 model year. But the brand may be bringing an exciting new electric version to America that will make enthusiasts forget all about that.
VW unveiled the ID. GTI concept at IAA in Munich in the fall of 2023. It’s a hotter version of VW’s ID. 2all hatchback, with several nods to GTI heritage. And best of all, it’s confirmed to be heading to production.
Here’s what you need to know about the Volkswagen’s electric GTI.
The ID. GTI will be smaller than the current Golf GTI

The current GTI is an upgraded version of the standard Golf. The electric GTI would be a similar version of the eventual ID. 2all EV. The ID. 2all is a four-door hatchback, but it’s smaller than the ID.3 electric car (which VW doesn’t offer in the U.S.) and the current Golf. It’s closer in size to the Polo, the car that slots below the Golf on size and price in Europe.
