Behind the Wheel: Mini John Cooper Works Coupe

Anything but mini

Mini Cooper, Maxi Clones. The sprawling lineup from BMW now includes a car with a hat, the Mini John Cooper Works Coupe, the answer to a question nobody really asked. Though it’s not really a coupe, since it technically qualifies as a hatchback, the appearance is certainly so. Okay, so it’s not the best looking Mini out there (we reserve our vote for the Mini Countryman Cooper S 4 All), it’s clearly unique with its domed roof and rounded aesthetic.

But it’s also not all show. The turbocharged, direct-inject 1.6 liter four banger provides a healthy 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 192 pound feet of torque (207 with Overboost function employed), which translates to some peppy numbers (0-60 in 6.1 seconds) and the tuned chassis and 2,701 pound curb weight ensure that the handling backs up the sporty look. We get Behind The Wheel in this pocket rocket with helmet. More photos after the jump.
