In today’s world, there are a lot of extremely capable off-road SUVs ideal for camping. There are also tons of trailers that can be pulled behind those vehicles, even if you plan to go off-road. But when you scale up to full-sized RVs, the capabilities tend to decrease as the amenities increase.

Well, the Torsus Praetorian Liberra off-road RV upends that trend in several awe-inspiring ways. Not only does this recreational vehicle have an ultra-luxe interior, but it also has terrain-tackling chops more closely associated with extreme 4×4 vehicles.

Straight bussin’

This version was based on the Torsus Praetorian, which wasn’t initially intended as an RV. But it’s easy to see how it could make the perfect blueprint for an adventure vehicle.

When it was introduced in 2018, it was launched as a bus designed to move personnel across some of the harshest terrain in the world. It was made for extreme environments, like those tackled in the mining, forestry, emergency response and safari industries.

As such, it’s built on a MAN TGM 4×4 chassis with a massively powerful 6-cylinder diesel engine. Along with being able to cross unforgiving landscapes, it can also ford depths of up to 70 cm (27.5 inches). It also boasts three differential locks, an integrated cable winch, a high-strength GRP outer skin and a special military external finish.

It might not be the fastest vehicle on the road, but it doesn’t need to be. It will get you there in comfort eventually, one way or another.

Five-star accommodations

The Praetorian’s capabilities aren’t really anything new. While undoubtedly impressive, they’re the same as the base vehicle. However, the inside has been completely transformed.

While the interior used to be outfitted, well, like a bus (with rows and rows of seats), this version has been given a complete makeover courtesy of German distributors Dämmler and All4Bus.

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra is outfitted like a luxury apartment on wheels, albeit one that could transport you to the ends of the earth.

There are two available configurations, although they do share some similarities. Both have an onboard wet bath, integrated storage throughout and a kitchenette, all lined with gorgeous wood detailing. However, there are a couple of big differences.

One comes with a pair of beds at the back, which, although tight, could sleep up to four people. The other swaps those dual beds for one larger option — ideal for couples without children or other riders.

Either way, the Torsus Praetorian Liberra is outfitted like a luxury apartment on wheels, albeit one that could transport you to the ends of the earth.
