To describe the rollout of the Tesla Cybertruck as troubled would be a massive understatement. It’s been a difficult journey for Elon Musk‘s polygonal EV experiment — ranging from the flubbed window demonstration at the vehicle’s initial unveiling back in 2019 to the massive price increases in the years since to the multiple delays that saw the first Cybertrucks delivered just this past November instead of in 2021 like originally planned.
And things aren’t necessarily getting better for the troubled truck. The vehicle’s latest setback is arguably its worst yet, as Tesla has issued a recall on all Cybertrucks currently on the road due to an issue with the vehicle’s accelerator that puts drivers and anyone else on the road with them in potentially serious danger. Here’s what you need to know about Tesla’s new Cybertruck recall.
Tesla Recalls All Cybertrucks Over a Faulty Accelerator Pedal
The Cybertruck is a beast of a vehicle, weighing between 6,600 and 6,800 lbs depending on the model, and covered in stainless steel panels. It’s basically a street-legal tank, so the idea of one of them careening down a freeway without the ability to stop is a pretty terrifying one. And that’s exactly the scenario Tesla’s new recall is aiming to prevent.
Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a report stating that Tesla is voluntarily recalling all 3,878 Cybertrucks currently on the road after it had discovered a problem with the truck’s accelerator pedal that can cause it to become stuck, thus increasing the risk of crashes.
When high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may dislodge, which may cause the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal.

The report goes on to say that soap was used at the factory as an “unapproved” lubricant when assembling the pad to the pedal, and leftover residue can cause the pad to become dislodged and become caught in the trim behind the pedal. Tesla discovered the issue after a number of customers filed complaints with the company.
