Searching for Surf in a 2025 4RunnerTRD Off-Road

With the help of pro surfer and filmmaker Hunter Jones, we traveled California’s iconic coastline in search of uncrowded waves.

In the zone. Being on a roll. The “flow” state. If you’ve never heard of it, you’ve probably felt it: that feeling of intense focus, when all concept of time and the outside world disappears, and all you’re left with is the task at hand. We’ve all experienced it at least once in our lives, but no group experiences it as often as surfers in the water.

Ask pro surfer Hunter Jones if he’s been in the flow state, and you’ll most likely get an assured, “yes.” When you’re as comfortable in the water as Hunter is, that feeling of being lost in the moment is as accessible as the next wave. But what about out of the water? Where does Hunter find flow then? Chances are, it’s behind the wheel of his own Toyota Tacoma.

As a lifelong Toyota owner, we knew Hunter would be the ideal choice to test out a 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road — and what better place to do so than the iconic central California coastline?

It turns out, when you combine surfing, camping and driving the epic California coastline, flow is easier to find than ever. From the ethereal cliffs of Big Sur to the swells in Morro Bay, we followed along as Hunter led us from set to set on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world.
