The 2025 Porsche Macan EV: Everything You Need to Know

The reveal date has been confirmed — and the electric Macan is arriving very soon.

Update, 1/26/2024: Porsche has formally unveiled the all-new, all-electric Macan. You can read all about the official stats and see the new vehicle here.

Porsche first branched into electric cars with the Taycan several years ago. But the company’s plan for more than 80 percent of its sales to be from EVs by 2030 will require electrifying the rest of its lineup — with the possible exception of the 911. That process begins this year with the all-new Porsche Macan EV.

The Macan isn’t one of Porsche’s iconic sports cars. But it is Porsche’s best-selling vehicle, typically moving as many units as the 911, 718 Cayman/Boxster and Panamera combined. So electrifying the Macan is a landmark move toward going electric.

Here’s what we know about the Porsche Macan EV so far.

The Macan EV will debut on January 25, 2024

Porsche confirmed it will launch the all-new Macan EV on January 25, 2024 at an event in Singapore. The reveal will occur at 6:30 AM ET.

The brand has not revealed a production timeline yet, but Macan EV prototypes are on the road in the U.S. being driven by journalists. There’s reason to be optimistic we’ll see the Macan EV hit dealers before the end of the 2024 calendar year.

The electric Macan will have an interior inspired by the Taycan

Porsche’s first official interior images of the all-electric Macan reveal a generally familiar layout — the brand isn’t exactly known for revolutionizing its designs on a whim. The influence of the Taycan EV can be found in a few places: the nubbin of an electronic shift lever on the dash, the passenger’s side display, the all-digital instrument panel. Physical controls for the climate and radio volume, blessedly, can still be found on the center console.

Also, true Porsche fanatics will note that the crest on the steering wheel is rendered in the dark gray known as “Turbonite,” suggesting that the top-shelf Macan EV will indeed be called the Macan Turbo.

The new electric Macan will be a four-door coupe SUV

While the larger Cayenne offers a choice of traditional two-box SUV and swoopy SUV coupe body styles, the gas-powered Macan has only ever offered one — and that seems likely to continue for the electric model. All the official preview images of camouflages prototypes and unofficial spy shots have shown a relatively compact crossover with a silhouette much like the BMW X4 or the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe.

The Porsche Macan EV will use a new electric vehicle platform

porsche macan ev 2025 prototypePorsche

The new Macan will be the first Porsche to ride on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform developed by Porsche and Audi. That should allow for more powerful and more efficient electric motors.

The Macan EV will boast 800-volt fast-charging capability, allowing it to fill from 5–80 percent — the longest charge most people do at a fast charger — in less than 25 minutes. The Macan EV will also use “bank charging,” which allows the battery to split into two 400-volt packs for better charging on slower fast chargers.

The Macan EV should offer more than 600 hp and over 300 miles of range

We know how much power the new electric SUV should deliver. Porsche has said the top-end Macan will put out 603 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque; other versions, obviously, will have less than that.

Range is more a matter of concern than power with electric cars, generally speaking. Porsche revealed in a November release that it expects the WLTP range estimates to be “more than 500 km for all variants.” Very roughly speaking, the EPA’s range estimates average around 82 percent of the WLTP ones, so to convert that to American units, Porsche is promising at least 254 miles of EPA-rated range.

Still, we think that’s awfully conservative. After all, Macan EVs in the United States will all pack a large battery pack of around 100 kWh — larger than the one found in the Taycan. And a pre-production Macan EV delivered 322.5 miles on a highway range test.

The Porsche Macan EV will pack rear-biased power delivery

Porsche has said the rear electric motor would sit as far back as possible on the Macan EV, giving the weight differential a slight rearward bias for better performance dynamics. Higher trims will receive an electronically controlled rear differential. The Macan EV will also feature rear-axle steering of up to five degrees. The Macan EV will also have larger staggered tires at the rear for added grip.

The electric Macan will have a trick suspension

The Macan EV will come with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with both steel springs and an air suspension as options. The Macan EV will add two-valve shock absorbers that operate independently and allow even further control and refinements while increasing comfort. The air suspension will be able to lower the body at speed for improved aerodynamics.

The Macan EV should replace the combustion Macan … eventually

Initial plans called for Porsche to axe the current generation combustion Macan in 2025 or 2026 after the EV settled in, but Porsche has reportedly told U.S. dealers it could keep the combustion Macan around beyond that depending on sales. (The Macan is pivotal to Porsche’s plans to increase profit margin.) With many automakers walking back their most aggressive EV adoption plans, it seems likely that the gas-powered Macan will stick around for a while … at least, as long as there are still interested buyers.
