I know that Porsche is practically synonymous with the classic sports car category. That said, I’ve just never really jibed with them. It’s not that I don’t appreciate their history or engineering; it’s just that they’re not my style.

Still, it’s extremely difficult to stand by that argument against a Singer Porsche restomod. The restoration firm always brings out the best in these German sports cars.

The brand’s latest, the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer, might finally win me over.

If looks could kill

There’s no denying the sheer beauty of this Singer Porsche. Every detail inside and out has been carefully considered and masterfully rendered.

That starts with the car’s original Type 964 monocoque, which forms the base of this restoration. Developed in consultation with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the chassis has been strengthened to suit its ground-up rebuild (especially its much more powerful engine).

The bodywork is also completely new, now done up in modern carbon fiber to help drop weight and increase stiffness. It also gets a deep front spoiler and intakes in the leading edges of the rear fenders to optimize air flow and cooling.

Finally, the exterior package can be finished with a rear spoiler deletion or with an iconic whale tail, fixed wing or speed-activated wing. It also gets an option for pop-up high-performance auxiliary driving lights.

That’s just for the outside. The interior also has a slew of exceptional options, including bespoke paint, leather, and material finishes; sport or track seating; and much more.

Plus, the gauges are all handcrafted, and the technological elements (like navigation and phone connectivity) are subtly included.

A legacy in high-performance racing

Of course, the most magnificent piece of this restomod puzzle is hidden away in the rear compartment: its engine. Based on the Type 964’s original powerplant, this Carrera gets a state-of-the-art, 420HP, naturally-aspirated flat six.

Developed by Singer with Cosworth engineering, it boasts a 4.0L capacity, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, water-cooled cylinder heads and air-cooled cylinders. In short, this beast purrs like a Maine Coon and roars like a lion.

To match all that power and performance, Bosch helped develop its ABS, traction control and electronic stability control, along with selectable drive modes, a manual six-speed gear box and RWD.

And for the min-maxers out there, it even boasts four-way, remotely adjustable dampers with electronic damping control.

Pricing and availability

Here’s the big catch: only 100 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer restomods will be built, and you have to supply your own Type 964 to take advantage of the program.

Furthermore, pricing varies from restoration to restoration, so you’ll have to contact the brand to find out how much it might cost you.

Still, if you’re lucky enough to own a 964 already and have made it this far without batting an eye, something tells me you won’t balk at the price.
