In 2015, German custom helmet design studio Helmade took an unprecedented step by creating the world’s first—and as of 2019, only—online 3D helmet design tool. But more recently, Helmade claimed another “first,” coming together with Triumph Brooklyn and Bell Helmets to create the first in-store custom helmet design program at the Triumph dealership location in Brooklyn, New York’s Williamsburg neighborhood.
For the only brick-and-mortar version of Helmade’s online configurator, Triumph Brooklyn set up an iPad with the 3D design software program. Customers can cycle through different Bell helmets, like the Bullitt and the new Eliminator, then choose from over 100 colors to tailor a design to their personal tastes. Once the final design is ready, the configuration gets sent to Helmade in Germany; six weeks later, your new custom helmet is ready for pick up at the Williamsburg dealership.
Like the Vans or Nike shoe configurators, you can easily create one-off helmets you’ll likely never see (or want to see) anywhere else, such as high-contrast, eye-searing neon palettes. Plus, going to the showroom lets you go even further than most configurator users; in addition to the wide spectrum of colors, gradients and effects available from Helmade, at Triumph Brooklyn you will be able to match your brand-new Bell helmet to your Triumph motorcycle’s color. Should that new Bell helmet happen to match a brand-new bike, we’re sure Triumph Brooklyn wouldn’t mind if you picked up one of those too.
