The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9: Everything You Need to Know

Hyundai has already launched the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 EVs, winners of back-to-back World Car of the Year awards. The next Ioniq electric car should be the Ioniq 9, a three-row crossover; picture an electric take on the excellent Palisade or Hyundai’s take on the Kia EV9. We’ve already seen the Ioniq 9 in concept form. The production version should be arriving soon.

Hyundai reportedly will rename the Ioniq 7 the Ioniq 9

In March 2024, Automotive News reported that Hyundai is rebranding its new three-row crossover previewed as the Seven concept — a name which led the world to believe this new crossover would be called the Ioniq 7, for obvious reasons — as the Ioniq 9.

Hyundai did not confirm the pivot from Ioniq 7, but noted to Automotive News that details would be released closer to launch.

What platform will the Ioniq 9 use?

The Ioniq 9 should use Hyundai Group’s E-GMP architecture, also used for the Kia EV9. E-GMP is a dedicated EV platform. Advantages include a flat floor to provide a flexible and spacious cabin and 800V fast-charging tech, which, if sufficient power is available, can theoretically deliver a full charge to some E-GMP cars in less than 20 minutes (or less than 25 minutes for the Kia EV9).

How much range will the Ioniq 9 have?

Hyundai has not announced range figures for the Ioniq 9 yet. The brand said the Seven concept would offer more than 300 miles of range.

Hyundai may well achieve that; the top range for the EV9 is 304 miles with single-motor RWD and the larger battery pack. It’s conceivable the Ioniq 9 could hit that mark — or even beat it by being slipperier.

How much power will the Hyundai Ioniq 9 have?

Hyundai has not made any announcements about potential power outputs for the Ioniq 9. But the top-spec dual-motor Kia EV9 packs 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, enough for the Kia EV9 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds. The Ioniq 9 may pack that exact same dual-motor setup.

Don’t expect anything too wild with the Ioniq 9 interior

The Seven concept went kind of crazy with coach doors, swiveling seats, an L-shaped sofa in the rear and a full glass roof. The production Ioniq 9 won’t be quite so elaborate.

Ioniq 9s have been spotted in testing with conventional rear-opening doors. And while Kia did include second-row swivel seats for the EV9, they aren’t available in the North American market due to safety considerations.

The Seven concept did make a point of highlighting sustainable materials and fabric usage, which could make it to the production car. We also expect Hyundai to draw heavily from the interiors used in the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

How much will the Hyundai Ioniq 9 cost?

Hyundai has not announced pricing for the Ioniq 9 yet. But we don’t expect pricing to differ dramatically from the Kia EV9. That SUV starts at $54,900 MSRP and tops out at $73,900 for the GT-Line AWD trim. That would make it the most expensive vehicle in the Hyundai lineup.

According to Automotive News, Hyundai will build the Ioniq 9 at its Georgia EV plant, which should help it become eligible for a federal tax credit.

When will the Hyundai Ioniq 9 arrive?

Hyundai has not unveiled a firm timeline for the Ioniq 9 to arrive yet. Korean Car Blog expects an unveiling in early 2024 (which would have to be very soon). Automotive News expects the Ioniq 9 to enter production in the first half of 2024 in Korea and mid-2025 in America. Hyundai confirmed to Automotive News that the new SUV will not debut at the New York Auto Show in April.
