Genesis is one of the newer brands on the automotive scene, emerging under the Hyundai umbrella in 2015. The luxury brand started with sedans, then branched out into SUVs — with the compact GV70 and midsize GV80, then with the all-electric GV60.

Fairly soon, Genesis reportedly will launch the GV90 — a flagship, full-size SUV counterpart to the opulent G90 sedan. It’s a car Genesis dealers desperately want. And it will be all-electric.

Here’s what we know about the GV90 so far.

The Genesis GV90 may use Hyundai’s next-gen EV platform

Initial reports expected the GV90 to use Hyundai’s current E-GMP platform that underpins the Kia EV9. But more recent speculation has Genesis using an updated Hyundai Integrated Modular Architecture platform called eM that will replace E-GMP.

The new platform reportedly can accommodate around 600 horsepower and more than 400 miles of range (potentially less under EPA testing) in top spec. Per Korean Car Blog, Hyundai may debut the new platform with the Ioniq 7, which would explain that vehicle’s apparent delay. The Stinger-replacing EV8 should be the first Kia vehicle to use it.

When will the Genesis GV90 arrive?

We don’t know yet. Initially, Korean outlets had the GV90 arriving in 2023. But Motor Trend now projects the GV90 will arrive in late 2025 as a 2026 model-year vehicle. Automotive News says the GV90 may arrive in the first half of 2026.

If previous Hyundai Group launches are an indicator, we’d expect to see the GV90 in concept form before the debut of the production model. We’d also expect Hyundai to launch the Ioniq 7 before Genesis proceeds with the GV90. Neither of those things has happened yet. So it may be a little while before the new SUV debuts.

How much will the Genesis GV90 cost?

Nothing has been announced yet on potential GV90 pricing. We can presume the GV90 SUV will be more expensive than the G90 combustion sedan, which starts at $88,975. Car and Driver estimates that the GV90 will start at around $100,000.

How much power will the Genesis GV90 have?

Genesis has not offered specs for the GV90 yet. If Genesis sticks with the E-GMP platform, the dual-motor setup Car and Driver believes the GV90 could get the 429-horsepower dual-motor setup from the Electrified GV70 crossoverperhaps with a higher output closer to 500 horsepower.

Alternatively, if Genesis uses the next-gen platform the GV90, Korean Car Blog expects that it will share powertrains with the EV8. That would mean two dual-motor variants with 429 horsepower and 603 horsepower.

Genesis did tease the new GV90 a while back

Genesis presented its vision for a sustainable future in September 2021. That vision included a large SUV at the far right of this image. There’s not much to glean about its appearance. But we expect the GV90 to follow the rest of the brand’s signature two-bar lighting and other styling features.

The Genesis GV90 could get more advanced Samsung infotainment tech

According to Korean Car Blog, Genesis could be partnering with Samsung on processing and OLED displays for the GV90’s infotainment system. Considering how impressive Samsung’s TVs have proven to be, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of it.

Could the Genesis GV90 offer coach doors?

The Hyundai Motor Group likes coach doors. Both the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 7 featured rear-hinged second doors in concept form; so did the original Kia Telluride concept. And we wouldn’t be surprised if an eventual GV90 concept has them as well.

But production is another matter. The current EV9 has conventional doors and a B-pillar. Coach doors may be better for showing off a high-design interior in pictures than implementing in a production vehicle. We’d be surprised if Genesis used them in the production GV90.
