Volvo’s performance EV brand Polestar debuted back in 2017 as an independent brand with the quirky Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid, then followed up with the Polestar 2 sedan. The brand’s next vehicle — and one that it expects to be transformative, sales-wise — is the Polestar 3 SUV which goes on sale this year.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Polestar 3.

What is the Polestar 3?

The Polestar 3 is a two-row, midsize luxury crossover. It’s built on Volvo’s new SPA2 (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, which it shares with the Volvo EX90.

How much power does the Polestar 3 have?

The base Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor has 489 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds. With the Performance Pack, that gets bumped up to 517 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque. With it, the Polestar 3 can then accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

How much range does the Polestar 3 have?

The Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor has an estimated EPA range of 315 miles. That drops to 279 miles when the car is fitted with the performance pack. The Polestar 3 has a 111-kWh battery pack and is capable of 250-kW DC fast charging.

What does the Polestar 3 interior look like?

Polestar describes the Polestar 3 as “Scandinavian minimalism.” That’s a fair description: think achromatic color palettes, animal welfare traced and eco-friendly fabrics. Polestar also skews toward the Tesla end of the spectrum with most controls relocated to a central touchscreen.

Does the Polestar 3 have a rear window?

Yes. Polestar has been moving toward making the rear window obsolete on its vehicles. The Polestar 2 has poor rear visibility, and the Polestar 4 will eliminate the rear window entirely — but the Polestar 3 still has a rear window.

How much does the Polestar 3 cost?

The Polestar 3 is significantly more expensive than the Polestar 2, but it will be cheaper than the brand first suggested. The Polestar 3 starts at $73,400, and the Performance Pack version starts at $79,400. The Plus package — Bowers & Wilkins audio, heated rear seats, 21-inch wheels — adds $5,500. The top trim starts at $84,900 — plus the $1,400 destination charge.

The Polestar 3 is not eligible for the federal EV tax credit currently, but you can receive a $7,500 credit on leases.

When will the Polestar 3 arrive?

Polestar 3 production has begun in China. Polestar says deliveries of the Polestar 3 will begin in Q2 2024. It is available to configure and order now on Polestar’s website.
