After months — nay, years — of teasing us with concepts, hints, camouflaged photographs and videoconference ride-alongs from an ocean apart, Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the vehicle that will be the point of the spear for its thrust into electric vehicles: the EQS.
We’ve already learned most of the details about this new electric Mercedes, thanks to all those aforementioned previews and teases, but now we can finally get a good look at the undisguised interior and exterior of this car that sets the course for the Three-Pointed Star for the next few years. Check it out below.
The EQS packs big range

These days, most new EVs can deliver somewhere in the realm of 200-250 miles of real-world range on a charge (in spite of what the EPA might say). The EQS looks as though it’ll be one of the first new cars to offer significantly more; based on its 770-km results on the international WLTP test, we expect it should deliver an EPA-certified range of close to 400 miles, and a real-world range in the same ballpark.
This Mercedes exists to slip through the air

Wind resistance is a foe of every car, but it’s a particularly nasty one for electric cars at highway speeds — which means a slippery, aerodynamically optimized design is crucial for maximizing range. Luckily, EVs also make it a little easier to do so by ditching the need for an internal combustion engine that takes up a ton of space in the front (or, if you’re Porsche, the back).
