Colorado-based Boreas Campers recently added an intriguing option to the brand’s robust line of adventure trailers. The new UB, which stands for “ultra-base”, is the brand’s most affordable camper trailer yet.

It’s an entry-level offering aimed at adventurers who want a robust, turn-key foundation for building the adventure trailer of their dreams.

In many ways, the UB seems like a natural step down a path Boreas was already walking. The company sells off-road trailer chassis like the C16, which starts at $8,600 for customers looking to build their own trailer body from scratch. Boreas also sells composite panel building materials directly.

The UB builds on this premise of trailer customization but offers a more substantial starting point. Measuring 16 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 80 inches tall, the trailer is big enough to hold plenty of gear or sleep a few people but still agile enough in size to reach more places off the beaten path. And with a starting weight of 1,425, it doesn’t demand a full-sized truck or SUV to tow it.

It’s built around a chassis offering 20″ of ground clearance as well as essential towing conveniences and off-roading chops. The base boasts components like a Cruisemaster CRS2 axle-less independent suspension that can support up to 3500 lbs, 235/80/R17 BF Goodrich All Terrain Ko2 tires, 17″ Vision D Window wheels and electric brakes. It attaches via a Cruisemaster D035 hitch coupler and 7 point plug to power the trailers integrated LED reverse lighting. Front and rear 2″ receiver hitches make it easy to tack on accessories like bike racks or even a motorcycle via an optional custom tray.

The box on top is a blank canvas made of fully insulated 1.8-inch-thick walls, two full-sized doors with windows, shades, and screens, and an interior area measuring 57″W x 106″L x 45″H. A MaxxAIR 6200 all-weather fan also comes pre-installed in the roof, but it’s not wired to a power source.

It’s not much to look at, but for a starting asking price of $14,990, it offers the bones of a capable adventure trailer that many people can afford and improve on their own via ingenuity, sweat equity, or additional purchases down the line.
