The guys at Overland Journal know how to adventure, and adventure well. Their magazines can be found both on coffee tables and in some of the most rugged vehicles around. Case in point, on our shoot last week of Sportsmobile we found a few editions in the back seat — for inspiration no doubt. So it comes as no surprise that they’d be the perfect match to outfit a 2013 Land Rover LR4 ($50,000) for adventure and comfort.

Out of the box, the Land Rover LR4 is a capable off-roader ready to take on all kinds of challenges. With some badass thoughtful upgrades from the Overland Journal crew, it becomes a world-ready expedition vehicle. They added an ARB bar on the front to protect the radiator and some of the more delicate bits on the off-chance you hit a tree, a rock or Bigfoot himself. The ARB also provides a platform to house a Warn winch and an extra set of lights. The special edition also gets Johnson Rod sensor arms for several inches of lift, aluminum rock sliders and a heavy duty bumper to protect the rear of the car from the rather small departure angle, and an extra lightweight roof rack for storage and use as a photography shooting platform for documenting adventures.
On the inside the special edition gets a National Luna refrigerator between the seats in the second row and a set of Adventure Trailers Overland Equipment drawers system, which are light, extremely strong and look great. The flat-folding seats in the LR4 made installation easy; because the surface remains flat, it’s a perfect sleeping area.
The $26,000 in added comforts and utility elements mixed with the 375 horsepower V8 make the LR4 the perfect beast of burden for any would-be adventurer. To truly test its capabilities, Overland Journal is taking it on the 900-mile Utah Traverse where, if nothing else, the refrigerator will be pushed to its limits.
