The House of Bertone’s design touch has graced numerous automotive marques over the years, like Lancia, Jaguar, Ferrari, Volvo and Aston Martin. At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Bertone will do it again — this time with British car maker Aston Martin in the form of the Aston Martin Jet 2+2, a four-door shooting brake (Euro-speak for wagon). Based on the four-door coupe Rapide S, the Jet 2+2 was commissioned by an anonymous (and clearly well-to-do) client. Moreover, it’s been built as part of the 60-year anniversary celebration of Aston Martin and Bertone’s first collaboration and Aston Martin’s 100th Anniversary.
The car is powered by a 470-horsepower V12, so you’d better not call it your run-of-the-mill station wagon. The rear’s been stretched and expanded for more storage space, and the rear seats even fold completely flat. It’s just the kind of beautiful design that slaps the stodgy American wagon mindset right in its puffy temples. Why can’t we seem to get this magic formula of practicality and stunning design down? Look for the Jet 2+2 starting next week in Geneva, alongside the new Rapide S.
