Big changes seem to be coming to Toyota world. Back in February, Motor1 revealed a raft of details from a Toyota insider about the manufacturer’s upcoming product plans. Now, another leak from AllCarNews has corroborated that reporting — and added lots of juicy additional details.
Check out the information about the new Toyota and Lexus models below.
Toyota GR86
Like the GR Supra, the Toyota 86 will reportedly get Gazoo Racing branding to become the GR86. It will arrive in summer 2021 (Motor1 previously reported a July debut). It will be built on a new platform, and will also boast a Subaru twin, just like the current car.
The GR86 will reportedly make 255 horsepower, a 50-hp bump over the current model. Better yet, that power will come with the turbocharger that enthusiasts have long clamored for, likely making it easier to pull even more power from the engine.
Toyota Land Cruiser / Lexus LX
Toyota will reportedly differentiate the two currently-nearly-identical models for the next generation. The leak describes the LX as “insane,” with a focus on luxury and performance, a choice between a a twin-turbo V6 hybrid and a twin-turbo V8, and a mission to compete with the Bentley Bentayga.
The 300-Series Land Cruiser, on the other hand, will reportedly lose its luxury focus and return to its roots as a stripped-out off-roader.
