Who needs propane? Australian manufacturer Retreat Caravans has partnered with OzXcorp, builders of this self-driving trailer, to produce the ERV: a 100-percent-electric camping trailer that offers luxury amenities and a no-compromises glamping lifestyle — and, as one would expect from an Australian-made camper, it is supremely off-road capable.
The trailer’s power system includes rooftop solar that delivers up to 2,033 watts, a 14.3-kWh battery and a 5,000-watt inverter. This provides enough power to run a range of devices, including a full-size fridge, an electric Weber grill and a washing machine — simultaneously. The rooftop solar panels can even harvest energy while the trailer is on the move, while he trailer’s thermally-insulated composite construction helps maximize heating and cooling efficiency.
Inside, the ERV is practically a luxury apartment on wheels, with a full-size bed, a separate dinette and kitchen area and an en suite bathroom with sophisticated-looking finishes throughout. It also has an awning for outdoor entertaining. Outside, though, it’s all business; the ERV is ready to hit the trail, thanks to an off-road suspension, all-terrain tires and an off-road bumper bar, among other options.
According to New Atlas, the ERV will start at the Australian dollar equivalent of around $65,500 U.S. That’s fairly reasonable, compared to what some luxury camping trailers can run. Plus, you’ll never need to buy propane (or worry about running out) again.
