When it comes to BMW M cars, it seems there can never be enough horsepower. Clearly, that was the philosophy behind powering the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe. What is arguably BMW’s best looking vehicle gets bumped up to the Motorsport division from whence all good things Bavarian come next year, and the payoff is automotively delicious.

Because competition is fierce in the sport-luxury 4-door coupe steel-cage death match (foes include the Audi S7, the Mercedes Benz CLS AMG and the Porsche Panamera Turbo), the Gran Coupe gets fitted with the most powerful engine ever shoehorned into an M car — a 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 with 560 horsepower. Mated to a robust seven-speed dual clutch tranny, the big sedan hustles to 60 in an impressive 4.1 seconds. That’s faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, folks. Opt for the M Driver Package and you can even get the 155 mph speed governor removed, releasing the beast to top out at 189. That way, you can get groceries and a nosebleed. Of course, the Gran Coupe isn’t go without show. Aside from the requisite M-badging, there are 20-inch forged light alloy wheels, fat wheel arches and a sweet carbon fiber roof. The teutonic monster goes on sale in the summer of 2013; no word yet on pricing.
