The biggest problem with camper vans, often times, is the sheer cost of one. Mercedes just came out with the Weekender, which is excellent — but will run you about $70,000. A third-party build can cost significantly more than that, plowing well into the six figures.
Canadian company Wilderness Vans offers a different approach, however. offering the chance to build out a brand-new, well-appointed and smartly-designed camper van for less than $35,000.
Wilderness Vans’s West Coast Mini floorplan build is designed for Nissan’s NV200 van. The vanseats four and sleeps two on a fold-down bed. Amenities include a refrigerator/freezer, a Dometic sink with a folding tap, a removable dining table and a 250-watt solar panel for charging up the secondary battery. There are cabinets on both sides, under the bed and inside the tailgate for extra storage
It’s not everything one could want from a van, but it’s a lot within such a compact footprint. The NV200 is also relatively fuel-efficient, earning about 25 mpg.
The best part, though, is the price. The Nissan NV200 at just $22,830, which works out to a little under $24,000 with the destination cost factored in. Wilderness Vans will install the West Coast Mini floorplan for $14,150, which would make your total outlay under $40,000. They also provide a DIY kit to install it yourself for $9,280, putting your total at less than $35K.
