These Are the World’s 10 Most Instagrammed Roads

Traveling by car instead of by plane may prove to be a particularly popular choice this year. (If you need us to explain why, we suggest you may want to pick up a newspaper.) Luckily, the roads those cars travel can be quite the appealing tourist attractions themselves.

Recently, British license plate registration website Click4Reg.co.uk compiled a list of the world’s most Instagrammed roads — and luckily for those of us who live between sea and shining sea, it includes three that are located in the United States.

Below are the top ten thoroughfares users found ‘gram-worthy. We’ve paired each road with our choice for the best car to drive on it for a little extra fun.

1. Route 66 (USA) – 1,708,620 tags

2020 Lincoln Aviator: A convertible sounds cool, but it’d likely get old fast. Cruise the remnants of the Mother Road in modern American comfort instead.

2. Great Ocean Road (Australia) – 1,291,178 tags

2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance:  Not only does it have a panoramic glass roof, this EV would make minimal contribution to Australia’s ongoing climate crisis — and the 151-mile road is well within the Model 3’s range.

3. Pacific Coast Highway (USA) – 325,917 tags

2020 Toyota 86: A low center of gravity and a stick shift are exactly what you want to conquer a long and winding road. Plus, it’s not overburdened with horsepower, so you can take a nice sightseeing pace and still have fun.

4. Valley of Fire (USA) – 219,333 tags

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: One of the best American roads deserves the best American Mustang.

5. Ring Road (Iceland) – 154,230 tags

2020 Toyota RAV4: You can do Iceland’s Ring Road in pretty much anything, as long as you can find said vehicle in Iceland. So you might as well pick a ubiquitous car you know will be spacious and comfortable.

6. Ruta 40 (Argentina) – 108,666 tags

2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel: All the capability to tackle whatever comes at you, with the turbocharged bonus of a little extra oomph at altitude.

7. North Coast 500 (Scotland) – 88,315

2020 Aston Martin Vantage:  Obviously, you need an Aston here. But it’s Scotland, so you will need a roof and a windshield, too.

8. Trollstigen (Norway) – 85,933

9. Cabot Trail (Canada) – 76,840 tags

10. Death Road (Bolivia) – 44,587 tags
