For many people out there, owning either a vintage Land Rover or an awesome-tricked out overlander would be a dream come true. Unfortunately, those dreams seldom combine — unless you can afford to have ECD Automotive Design build a custom Land Rover Overlander out for you.
Luckily, the stars and moon have just aligned for those of us who can’t drop that kind of crazy cash on a bespoke camper. This 1984 Land Rover 110 Dormobile overlander that just popped up for sale on Expedition Portal merges the visions of old-school Land Rover ownership with overlanding fun at a (comparatively) reasonable price.
The base truck is a 1984 Land Rover 110. It has a newer 300 TDI engine with 38,000 miles, paired with a five-speed manual. It also comes with upgraded brakes and heavy-duty suspension components. According to the listing, this rig gets around 22 miles per gallon of diesel, and has a range of more than 600 miles, thanks to its extended range tanks.
A Dormobile roof pops out in seconds, allowing for nine feet of standing room. Fold-out bunks sleep two passengers. Other amenities include maple wood cabinets, a refrigerator that can function as a freezer, a diesel stove and heater, an outdoor shower, LED lighting, a Goal Zero Boulder 100 Solar Panel and a Goal Zero Yeti 400 Portable Generator Power Station. For those wanting a little extra privacy, this rig has 360-degree blackout curtains and a built-in secret storage compartment.
This setup may sound like the sort of camper perfection one could only find in Europe. But this fully-loaded Land Rover 110 has already been imported to the U.S. and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. The asking price: $83,000.
