The BMW X5 xDrive35d is a mouthful, an earful and a pocketful all at once. Its visually eclectic nomenclature is BMW speak for all-wheel drive and a diesel powertrain. Yes, we said diesel. Get used to it, because the clean-burning fuel is here to stay — providing both efficiency (relative, of course, for something this size) and torque.
As with just about every BMW in the lineup, it lets out a pretty good engine belch, alerting everyone that you’re not driving some bargain eco-putter of an SUV. But now for the real question: how much does it hurt to pull the trigger? We all know BMW’s aren’t cheap. The base price for the X5 diesel is $56,700, but start slapping on the options like Joe Biden slaps on tooth whitener and you’re north of $70K. But enough price whining. Go beyond the break for photos.
