The IIHS has announced its Top Safety Pick Awards for 2020. Mazda led the way, with five vehicles grabbing the top-level Top Safety Pick+ designation. Hyundai Motor Group had the most nominations overall, with 14 cars earning either Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ — including one of our new favorites, the Kia Telluride.
American manufacturers, however, did not fare as well. Only two American cars — the Cadillac XT6 and the Tesla Model 3 — received a Top Safety Pick+ rating. In fact, only six of the 64 total award winners were American cars.
