The Subaru WRX was a dream car for the early-2000s-era teenage male. With rally heritage, a five-speed manual and 227 horsepower from its turbocharged EJ205 2.0-liter engine, it was built for aggressive driving. Yet unlike dating Britney Spears or Sarah Michelle Gellar, the sweet Subie was a dream that could actually come true — at least if your parents were generous, or you landed that sweet job right out of college.
Right now, that Aughties-dream WRX can be yours thanks to a no-reserve auction on Bring a Trailer. It’s a 2002 model with the classic bug-eye headlights and a lot of life left, as it has just 10,000 miles on the clock. Sure, it wears platinum silver metallic paint and silver wheels, not the World Rally blue and gold rims you thirsted over once upon a time. But hey, that color makes the WRX more sophisticated and suitable for your current age.
Admittedly, this car isn’t perfect. While currently located in California, this WRX spent its life in wet and wintery Connecticut, and shows some evidence of corrosion; in addition, the carbon hood scoop may irk some perfectionists. But this low-mileage version of a definite 2000s classic could be quite the value proposition for the right buyer prepared to clean it up.
Consider this a chance to conduct a noble chicken-or-egg experiment. Does the WRX attract drivers with propensities for getting into car accidents and running afoul of local speed limits?
