BMW’s Hottest New Sports Car May Be Powerful—and Pricey

The M2 CS may wind up being BMW’s best performance coupe, but it won’t be cheap.

BMW has often promoted itself as the creators of “the ultimate driving machine.” Right now, the M2 Competition may be the carmaker’s purest distillation of that oft-mission. But that may not be the case for long: An even hotter M2 CS version is coming, and the details of this new sports car appear to have leaked on BimmerPost.

The forum member who posted said details, who purportedly viewed the car at a private viewing event in Belgium, says the new M2 CS will have 444 horsepower, which aligns with previous leaks. It will reporteldy use an adaptive suspension and will be available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The M2 CS will be available in white, blue, silver and black, according to the forum member. The poster says BMW is not claiming any weight savings for the new model, despite carbon fiber used in the roof, hood and elsewhere.

BMW, per the poster, will produce a limited run of 2,200 cars globally. Production will begin in March 2020. Pricing for the M2 CS may push into the six figures; Belgium’s reported starting price of €95,000 would translate to $105,000 in America. That would be nearly $50,000 more than the current M2 Competition.

DElightfully enough, the M2 CS may not be the only special M2 coming in 2020. BMW raced an M2 Competition-based customer race car in camouflage (pictured above) at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in August. That car is supposed to begin being delivered during the second quarter of 2020.
