The Mercedes G-Class may be the most impressive and capable off-road vehicle in production. Because of the considerable cost and the relatively few highfalutin people who an afford them, the G-Wagen also may be the most underutilized vehicle in production. It’s always great to see that truck used as intended. A sticker-clad used model that just popped up on Bring a Trailer could be your ready-made overlanding rig.

This “designo silver” beaut is a 2003 G500. It has the smallest gasoline engine available at the time, which at that point was a still-potent 5.0-liter V8 putting out 292 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque when it was fresh out of the box.

The previous owner outfitted it for overlanding with a Front Runner Slimline II roof rack, an ARB awning, and a National Luna refrigerator and freezer setup. It also features a custom drawer setup, power outlets, and metal racks on the rear windows for holding equipment.

Fret not about luxury. It’s still a G-Wagen. You get fetching natural maple Mercedes wood trim and charcoal grey designo leather seating. It’s also fully ready to hit the trail with Bilstein shocks, Rockmeister rock sliders, and a Warn winch.

Be judicious with the sticker removal. Effacing the vehicle’s rich history entirely would be a shame. But, creating confusion over your college lacrosse affiliation could be problematic within certain circles on the East Coast.
